Join CBOL
Membership in CBOL is open to any organization that’s involved in biodiversity or biotechnology. Museums, university departments, government agencies and private companies are signing up as CBOL Member Organizations so that they can be involved directly in the DNA Barcode Initiative. By being a CBOL Member, your organization will:
- Be well-connected to CBOL’s Working Groups and other initiatives
- Have a voice in determining CBOL’s priorities
- Get first-hand information on the latest developments in DNA barcoding
- Receive regular updates on CBOL’s new initiatives
- Have priority when CBOL activities are over-subscribed
- Be able to nominate candidates for CBOL’s Executive Committee and Scientific Advisory Board
Since the May 2004 inaugural meeting, over 100 organizations from 40 countries and 6 continents have joined the Consortium for the Barcode of Life. They include museums, herbaria, biodiversity conservation organizations, genetics and biotechnology labs, university departments, government agencies, and private companies. These Member Organizations share an interest in exploring and developing DNA barcoding as a tool for species identification. It’s easy to become a CBOL Member Organization and there are no financial or other formal obligations. The only requirement is that Member Organizations will place their barcode data records in a public database.
How to become a CBOL Member Organization:
- Read the CBOL Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) and Statement on Intellectual Property Rights [pdf, 32Kb]
- Have a senior official of your organization sign the MoC
- Scan the signed MoC and send it as an email attachment to CBOLInfo@si.edu, or fax it to +1-202-633-2938
- Send the signed original MoC to CBOL Secretariat Office, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, P.O. Box 37012, MRC-105, Washington, DC 20013-7012
